

Nellie was born October 5, 1929 in Boston, MA, son of Nelson and Elizabeth Hooe. He attended The Rivers School, Phillips Exeter Academy, and Yale University, and he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. His career in the investment business started at GH Walker, and he continued as a vice president at Kidder, Peabody & Co., now UBS Financial Services.
He was an avid athlete, nationally ranked in tennis and successful in hockey, as well as an accomplished musician, playing the piano by ear and singing tenor. He loved his family, his dogs, and his summers on Squirrel Island in Maine.
Nellie is survived by two daughters, Elisabeth Hooe of West Roxbury and Ginevra Stephenson, wife of Tapley, of Wenham, as well as two grandchildren Tapley and Sarah. He was predeceased by his wife, Susanne “Susie,” in 2016 and his son, Nelson “Sandy,” in 2009. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be greatly appreciated to the Squirrel Island Chapel or Squirrel Island Library at General Delivery, Squirrel Island, ME 04570. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Church, 59 Court St., Dedham at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 10.
