

MARLBOROUGH - Raymond J. Galgano died at the home of his daughter, Peg Scarlata, in Sudbury, Thursday, November 27, 2014 following a short period of declining health. He was 90 and the husband of the late Mary Margaret (McDonough) Galgano.
Formerly a resident of New Horizons in Marlboro, he had previously lived in Syracuse, NY. Born in North Tarry Town, New York, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Frances (Capossela) Galgano .
He was a highly decorated World War II Army veteran and saw action with Darby’s Rangers. Wounded in the battle of Anzio, Mr. Galgano was taken prisoner by the Germans and was held as a Prisoner of War from January 1944 until April of 1945. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star among other honors from the Army.
Following his discharge he was educated at Columbia University and following graduation was employed for twenty years as a manufacturer’s representative for Dr. Scholl’s foot products. He later owned and operated his own retail shoe company, Galgano Shoes, in Baldwinsville, New York.
In addition to his daughter, Peg, he leaves his son, Raymond Jr. of Northampton, MA; his son in law, Tom of Sudbury; grandchildren Katie and Tommy Scarlata and Stephanie, David and Emmelia Galgano; brother, Francis, sister Jenny Sarcelli, and sister-in-law Ellen McDonough, all of Sleepy Hollow, NY.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on December 4th at 11 am in the Chapel at New Horizons, 400 Hemenway St., Marlboro. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Sudbury.
