Richard Gerard "Dick" McCarthy

He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Veronica Healy McCarthy, four devoted children and their spouses: Gerard P. McCarthy and his wife Theresa of Belmont, Elizabeth J. Foley and her husband Adam of Natick, Scott R. McCarthy and his wife Ann of Litchfield, CT, Laura Murdock and her husband Hernán of Wayland; nine grandchildren who loved spending time with "Grampy": Daniel, Caroline, and Katherine McCarthy; Emma and Isabelle Foley; Matthew, Sarah and Ellen McCarthy; and Ryan Murdock.

He is also survived by his brother Robert N. McCarthy and his wife Maureen of Farmington, CT, his nephew Peter McCarthy and niece Maura McCarthy.

Dick was a graduate of Boston College High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics from Boston College, class of 1954, and a Master’s degree in physics from Northeastern University. He spent his professional career of forty years as a senior engineer with Raytheon of Waltham.

A long-time resident of Sudbury, Dick served on the board of directors of Sudbury Little League and was active as a coach. Dick spent many years with family and friends enjoying Boston College football games. In retirement, Dick and his wife Veronica travelled extensively. He was an avid sports fan and passed this enthusiasm on to his children and grandchildren, especially Ryan.

Dick was a gentle and kind man who was well liked by all who knew him. He enjoyed reading, swimming each day, and most of all being in the company of his family who shall keep him in their hearts and memories always.

Dick’s funeral will be Wednesday, October 22, at 9AM from the Duckett-J.S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Rd. (Rt. 20) SUDBURY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o’clock at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 160 Concord Rd. Sudbury. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Sudbury. Relatives and friends are kindly invited and may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
