Born January 10, 1932 in Brighton, the son of William Lyons and Mildred (Welch) (Lyons) Onorato. Bob was raised and educated in Brighton and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked as a bricklayer for G. Salvucci Masonry Company and for the Army Corps of Engineers before his retirement from the VA Hospital in Bedford in the late 1990s. Mr. Lyons resided in Sudbury from 1963 to 1979 before settling in Wayland. He enjoyed spending winters in Clermont, FL, and was an antique dealer in Sudbury and Wayland for many years.
While working for Guido Salvucci as a bricklayer, he worked on many major Boston construction projects, including the Otis Air Force Base, the Sumner Tunnel and others. Driving with him through Boston and the surrounding areas, it wasn’t uncommon for him to point out different buildings he had worked on as a bricklayer and mason.
Bob enjoyed working hard and helping others. A true Renaissance man, he was just as comfortable discussing art deco furniture as he was roofing a friend’s house. He loved to spend time searching for good deals, whether it was a WWII saber, a folk art painting or toys. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bicycling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to give gifts and tell stories (some of which could be considered “tall tales”). He was a strong-willed person with a loving heart.
Beloved father of Robert J. Lyons Jr. and his wife Karen of Wayland, Lynne A. Cardinal and her husband Robert of Clermont, FL; devoted grandfather of Adam Lyons and his wife Anne of Wayland, Nicole Lyons and her husband Ben Bulkeley of Portland, ME, Christopher Lyons and his wife Meaghan of Wayland, Russell Lyons and his partner Alexis Flores of Washington DC, Eric Lyons of Wayland, Michael Cardinal and his wife Shelie, Michele Cardinal and her spouse Catherine Nivens, all of FL; proud great-grandfather of Angelina, Timothy, Korie, Michael II and Joshua; great-great grandfather of Alexa; loving brother of William Lyons and his wife Mary of Watertown, Ronald Lyons and his wife Patti of Merrit Island, FL. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, a large extended family and many friends and acquaintances.
He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Angela (Cugini) Lyons; by his grandson, Robert Cardinal Jr.; and by his sister, Dolly (Lyons) Deluca.
