Rosalind M Hawk

January 5, 1964September 19, 2020

Rosalind (“Roz”) Mary Soulam Hawk passed away on September 19th, 2020 at the age of 56 after a courageous three year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Above all, Roz was a faithful member of her church and a lifelong disciple of Jesus Christ. She had a deep love of learning and served as a teacher and mentor to countless friends, students and acquaintances. Her last months were spent offering counsel and support to the many individuals whose lives she had influenced. She was often described as a light by those who benefited from her many acts of service…a light that would shine to help those in need, and a light that was also comfortable allowing others to shine. If Roz was your advocate, you could not fail—she wouldn’t allow it.

Roz was born on January 5, 1964 in Hollywood, CA to Jacob Soulam and Frances Linda Holcomb. She grew up in Los Angeles and later Salt Lake City and served a mission in the Peru Arequipa mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her Hollywood beginnings foreshadowed a long career in the film and television industry after graduating from Brigham Young University with a BA in Theater and Film in 1990. Roz worked on over 100 film and television productions as an actress and casting director. She appeared as a SAG actress in productions like “Touched By an Angel,” “Promised Land” and the motion picture “A Home of Our Own” starring Kathy Bates. Roz also did casting for large-scale film productions for her church including “Testaments,” “Lamb of God” and “The Restoration” (see link below for full filmography).

In the middle of her thriving film career, Roz met her best friend and love of her life Jeffery David Hawk during a trip to Paris in 1997. Roz and Jeff were married in the Salt Lake City Temple in March 1999 and were true partners in life sharing a mutual love of travel, art, family and friends. Roz and Jeff’s adventures with their children included elephant rides in Cambodia, pyramid tours in Egypt and a seven year residence in Brussels, Belgium, which gave them lifelong friends across the globe. Upon returning to the US, the Hawks moved to Sudbury, Massachusetts and immediately became part of the community. Roz could be found vocally supporting her children at local sporting events, helping numerous local Scouts reach the rank of Eagle Scout, teaching early morning seminary classes for local teens and volunteering at Open Table, a food pantry in Maynard, Massachusetts.

Of her many roles, Roz loved being a mother most of all and her children were always her top priority. Roz is survived by her mother Frances Linda Holcomb Soulam, her husband Jeff and their three children: Jacob Soulam Hawk, Asher Den Hawk and Addyson Fleur Hawk. Services for Roz will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance is limited but a Zoom broadcast of the funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm Eastern Time. The Hawk family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Open Table in Maynard (

We love Ros and all the Hawk family. You were a great inspiration to us while we were Boston Temple Missionaries. Jack left on his mission at the same time as our grandson. Ros was amazing with her insights about the gospel and I loved seeing her at church each Sunday along with you, her beautiful family. We love you and are so glad we have known Ros and all of you. Love, Dan and Christine Lattin

Roz was my friend in high school.I only remember good things about her. Her bright smile, her acceptance of anyone, and her loving nature. I could have times in high school where I was very backward when it came to people I did not know, she always made it easier ... I was very saddened to hear of her death. I haven’t seen her for many years but my heart was filled with memories of my youth.
I have felt a love for her sweet children and her husband that I can’t explain. My heart is with you now as you mourn her loss and I pray for your constant peace, and hope in God’s promises.

I've only known Roz for about a year, but I still remember the first time she reached out to me to invite my daughter to a fun program the church was organizing. She was warm, funny and so kind. When we subsequently met, she shared that she had breast cancer and I was struck by her strength and grace in dealing with it all. This was a woman who loved her children fiercely--and was so proud of them all. May she R.I.P. We will continue to lift Roz and her family up in prayer.

Roz was a dedicated volunteer for Open Table's community dinners and will be dearly missed by her Open Table friends. As a fellow volunteer and Board member, I am touched that the Hawk family has asked for Open Table to receive tributes in memory of Roz.

We will honor her commitment to serving others with dignity and love by getting needed food to communities and families with those tributes.

From all of us who knew Roz at Open Table, we send our heartfelt condolences to the Hawk family,

in sympathy,
Mary Siegel

Jeff, Jack, Asher and Addison;

I want you all to know that my love for your family will never end. My most awesome cousin, Roz and I, grew up together when we were young, no matter where we were we would always be together. Roz is one of the most beautiful, loving and caring person I know. I will forever have a peace of heart that belongs to my cousin, until we are able to meet again, I am grateful she had time in my life down here on earth. I love you all very much, and I pray for peace that surpasses all understanding, Proverbs 3:5-6. ❤️❤️❤️

My thoughts are with you and your wonderful family. Be comforted that you have so many friends and colleagues that share your grief. In the days ahead, also be comforted by the many remembrances of Roz you will experience through those many warm 'triggers' around your home and family. Those triggers will help to ease your grief and begin to help you and the family resume your lives together.

My Best Always.
