

ROYCE CARLTON KAHLER, born February 6, 1923 in Brockton, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on August 22, 2021. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley. He and Shirley served in WWII and married as the war wound down. "She ordered me to marry her" Royce would joke (Shirley was an officer, he was enlisted.) He is survived by his children, Rocky (Joan) of Florida, Murray, of Sudbury, Susan of Utah, and Kim (Theresa), of Vermont. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Royce worked his way through college after the war, earning an electrical engineering degree from Northeastern University. He worked for Barkley and Dexter Labs. He taught calculus and transistors at Lowell Tech. Most of his work was as a civilian working for the Air Force, which brought him to locations ranging from Eskimo villages to the Brazilian rainforest while conducting ionospheric research. After retiring, Royce was a volunteer for the state archeologist. His hobbies included history, studying rocks and minerals and Native Americans, and walking through the woods. He was a member of the Sudbury Valley Trustees, Massachusetts Archeological Society, Masons, American Legion, VFW, and the Sudbury Historical Society.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 27 from 4:00--7:00 PM at the Duckett-J.S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road/Route 20, Sudbury. Interment will be Saturday, August 28 at 10:00 AM in Linwood Cemetery, 190 Boston Post Road Bypass, Weston, MA
