

Born in New York, NY on Feb. 2, 1927, the son of the late William Griffin and Louise (Ketsch), he served in the Navy during WWII and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Missouri School of Mines and Master’s degree from Northeastern University. He was a founding member of the Fr. Hurley Council #5188 Knights of Columbus and SMARC. He was active in the DAV and Sudbury Boy Scouts. He was a ceramic engineer and worked for Raytheon in Waltham for 20 years. Then he worked for GTE in Africa, in Algeria. His last professional position was as an Environmental Engineer in the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs until his retirement at age 75.
He was predeceased by his wife Marie (Winklbauer) Griffin, his son, Richard Griffin and son-in-law, Charles J. Sabatier Jr. He is survived by his children, Michael Griffin, with whom he lived in Sudbury, Maureen Griffin of Huntsville, AL, Margaret “Peggy” Griffin, of Wellesley, William J. Griffin and his wife, Valerie Rice of San Diego, CA, a sister Eileen Bahnsen of NJ, grandchildren, Michael P and Elaine Griffin of Sudbury, Charles, Caroline, and Danielle Sabatier of Wellesley, Melissa, Alanna and Andrew Griffin, and Kyle and Joshua Rice, all of San Diego, CA. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Rita Botti and "Harry" Griffin.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 17th at 8:00 AM from the Duckett - J. S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road (Rte. 20), Sudbury followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Concord Rd., Sudbury at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow in Wadsworth Cemetery, Sudbury. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00PM – 8:00PM at the funeral home.
