Alfred (Al) Anger was born in NYC, the second of four children to Gussie Frank and David Anger, Polish immigrants. He lived a full life and never lost his sense of humor. He graduated from CCNY during the Depression. He spent 44 years in service to the city as a New York City Policeman. He rose in rank from Patrolman to Assistant Chief and was commanding officer of the Bronx. Over the years he worked various assignments in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. During World War II he took a leave from the NYPD to serve in the Marines and was stationed in the Pacific at Bougainville and Peleliu. While stationed in Santa Barbara, CA, he married Opal Jean Overholtzer. After the war he moved his wife and daughter to NYC and later had three more children. He continued his career with the NYPD while remaining in the Marine reserves. Al was called up for duty during the Korean Crisis, serving on the aircraft carrier Saipon. He served 33 years both in active and reserve duty, retiring as a Marine Colonel. He was particularly proud of his contribution to his fellow citizens and his country. After his first wife died he married his loving wife, Joni Wilson. They spent 43 happy years together often wintering on Marco Island in Florida. He loved nature and spent many peaceful hours fishing. He was an avid reader and curious about life, people and science. He is survived by his wife Joni; his four children, Karen Kaminsky, Barbara Anger, Russell Anger (Kathy), Steven Anger; his sister, Betty Eisenberg (Danny); his many grandchildren, great grand children; nieces and nephews.
