

Dr. Aloysius Smith of Montebello, NY, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025. He was a remarkable husband and father who was dedicated to his family, friends, students and patients. He strove for excellence and inspired others to do the same.
Aloysius Gonzaga (Francis) Smith was born on June 21, 1949 in Castries, Saint Lucia. He completed a medical degree at UWI, Jamaica, followed by training at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Barbados, New York Medical College, and the Mayo Clinic in plastic and hand surgery. Over his 52-year career, Dr. Smith treated countless patients, trained students at many hospitals in the tristate area, and maintained offices in Yonkers and Manhattan.
After graduating from medical school, Aloysius moved to New York and married Lorna, the love of his life. Together they raised three sons, Walter, Whitney (Nicole), and Courtland. Aloysius is also survived by his granddaughters Aubrey and Kennedy, siblings Lona (Onyechi), Errold (Marietta), Gloria, Junior, Jeanette (Marvin), Jimmy (Nancy), his favorite uncle, Frederick (Caroline), as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Aloysius’ life will be held on November 8 2025 at 2 PM at the Brick Church, 220 Brick Church Rd., New Hempstead, NY. 10977.
