Ann Burke left us suddenly, in her sleep, early in the morning of May 22, at home. She is survived by her daughter Mary (Bruce Simon), sons John and Ed, and her beloved grandchildren, Michael and Meghan Simon.
Ann was predeceased by her sisters Bridget ("Bridie") and Margaret; her husband Edward Burke; and her son James.
Ann was born to Katherine (O'Rourke) and James O'Donnell in September 1939 in County Leitrim, Ireland, the second of the three O'Donnell daughters. At an early age, she learned the value of hard work and honesty, qualities that served her well throughout her long life.
After finishing school, Ann moved to London, England, before emigrating to New York City, where she met her future husband, Edward Burke. After living in the Bronx for a few years, Ann, Edward, and their four children moved to Sloatsburg, New York.
Never one to sit still, Ann was known to move quickly as a waitress in New York City, and being quick on her feet also came in handy while raising four children. And after settling in Rockland County, her need to move often took her on miles-long walks throughout the area, leaving much younger people gasping for air.
Ann's faith was always very important to her, and the Burke family were longtime members of St. Joan Of Arc church in Sloatsburg.
Ann was a vital member of the Sloatsburg Seniors, attending weekly meetings and traveling with the group on a regular basis.
Among Ann's greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren; cooking them their favorite meal, toast and eggs; and cheering them on in their athletic and artistic events.
