August 7, 1943 – October 31, 2025
Constance Marie (Gattuso) Murray, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, in Greenville, South Carolina, at the age of 82.
Born on August 7, 1943, in Suffern, New York, Connie was the cherished daughter of the late Angelo Gattuso and Carmela (Trichetta) Gattuso. She grew up in Suffern, where she attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Suffern High School, proudly serving as Head Majorette. On March 26, 1965, Connie married the love of her life, John J. Murray, Jr., at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern, beginning a 60-year marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and countless memories.
Connie was a warm and vibrant presence in every community she touched. A longtime parishioner of The Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River, NJ, she was also a dedicated member of the Suffern Junior Women’s Club and a compassionate volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was known for her radiant smile, her kind heart, and her gift for making everyone feel like family. Connie never had a harsh word for anyone—she truly was everyone’s friend.
She loved the simple joys of life: sunny days at the Jersey Shore, where she spent summers since childhood, a spirited game of tennis, and a good shopping trip with friends or family. Above all, her greatest joy came from her family. Connie’s grandchildren and her special great-granddaughter, Skylar, were her pride and joy, and they brought her endless happiness—especially in her later years.
Connie is survived by her beloved husband John J. Murray, Jr.; her loving daughters Darlene Knapp and her husband John, and Karen Venturella and her husband Robert; her adoring grandchildren Lindsey, Kevin, Kelly, Kimberly, Marisa, and Jessica; and her precious great-granddaughter Skylar. She is also survived by her sister Concetta Pomroy and her caring daughter-in-law Karen Murray. Connie was predeceased by her beloved son, Peter J. Murray, whose memory she carried in her heart always.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY. Cremation services will be private.
Connie’s warmth, generosity, and loving spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and joy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
