Donald shared more than 74 years of marriage with the love of his life, Lillian M. (nee Malocsay) Norton. The couple was married on July 4, 1952, at Lillian’s parents’ home in Upper Saddle River, beginning a beautiful life together filled with love, family, and countless memories.
A proud United States Navy Korean War Veteran, Donald carried with him a strong sense of dedication and hard work throughout his life. He worked as a carpenter for more than 40 years with Carpenters Union Local 964 at Forni Construction in Nanuet, NY. He took great pride in his work and in being able to provide for and care for his family.
Donald was a man who always kept busy. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid sports fan and a true New York fan, faithfully following his favorite teams—the Yankees, Giants, Rangers, and Knicks. At home, he could often be found working in the yard or on his house, tending to his garden, splitting wood, or riding his tractor around the property. He was fiercely independent and preferred to do things himself, taking great pride in being able to fix, build, maintain, and care for the things around him.
Above all else, Donald treasured his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of his world. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Pappy.” The time he spent with them created memories that will remain with his family forever.
Donald is survived by his devoted wife of more than 74 years, Lillian M. Norton; his daughter, Diane Kass; his son, Donald Norton and his wife, Alyson; his grandchildren, LeeAnne and her husband Richard, Donald, and Matthew; and his great-grandchildren, Amber, Michael, and Ryan. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
