Douglas Kozak of the Bronx, New York, passed away on October 2, 2026, at the age of 78, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a lasting legacy of love, and friendship.
Standing an impressive 6’4”, Doug was a true gentle giant with a larger-than-life personality and an extraordinary zest for life. Warm, personable, and endlessly curious, he had a natural gift for connecting with people. He loved learning new things, sharing stories, and making friends wherever life took him. His engaging personality, generous spirit, and genuine interest in others made him unforgettable to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Doug was a phenomenal chef who found great joy in preparing delicious meals. Few things brought him greater satisfaction than cooking fresh fish he had caught earlier that day paired with a fine wine, and enjoying the company of those around his table. A passionate hockey enthusiast, he loved all things hockey and never lacked a story, an opinion, or enthusiasm for the game.
Strong-willed and determined, Doug was equally known for his deeply caring nature. He was someone others could turn to for support, thoughtful advice, and encouragement. Beneath his commanding stature was a generous heart and a steadfast devotion to the people he loved. He gave freely of himself and had a way of making those around him feel valued, welcomed, and understood.
Above all, Doug treasured his family and the meaningful connections he built throughout his life. His greatest legacy is found not only in the memories he leaves behind, but also in the love he shared, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; his cherished daughter, Alexa; and his devoted brother, Michael. They, along with extended family members and dear friends, will hold his memory close and carry his spirit forward in their hearts.
Douglas will be deeply missed but never forgotten. He will be remembered for his generous heart, infectious spirit, love of good food and fine wine, passion for hockey, and the countless stories, laughs, and unforgettable moments he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
Though he may be gone from our sight, the warmth of his presence and the love he gave so freely will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Rest peacefully, Doug. You will always be loved, forever remembered, and deeply missed.
