Dulia Monrose Celestin

Dulia Monrose Celestin was born in Quartier-Morin, Haiti on February 15th, 1938. She was the daughter of Horace Monrose and Floricia Thomas, and she was the 4th of 8 siblings. She married Luc Celestin in 1960 and was blessed with five children. She migrated to the United States in 1987 with 3 of her five children. She would go back and forth between the US and Haiti due to her husband, children, and other family members.

Dulia believed in God, she valued family, and cherished life. As a Christian, she would pray fervently every day, and would not negotiate her daily prayers for anything. She would not miss her Sunday morning mass and of course, she had to be at the church 20 minutes before the starting time for her first prayer.

Dulia was always a hard working woman. She was a dedicated mom, more importantly, she was dedicated to her children. Throughout her life and until her last day, she strove for the well-being and success of her children. She valued and viewed education as a critical tool that one should pursue and possess to attain your short and long term goals, regardless of your culture or society you are living in. She would always advise the younger generation about pursuing their education, and she would always encourage them to follow the right path.

She was very pleasant and fun to be around. She was a counselor for many and enjoyed sharing her own experiences with others. She loved playing and joking with her children, grand-children, nephews, nieces, extended family members, and friends. Despite the pain and suffering on her last days, she would occasionally crack a joke when her pain lessened a little bit. She enjoyed sharing with the less fortunate regardless what she had.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4th 2017 from 6-9PM at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59 in Suffern, NY. A Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 5th at 10AM, St. Joseph Church, Spring Valley, NY. Immediately following the Mass, Dulia will be laid to rest at Saint Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
