Eileen Josephine Greany

Eileen Josephine Greany, Nee Greenan, 91, of Suffern, departed this life peacefully on Wednesday January 10, 2023 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, listening to Irish music with her granddaughter. Eileen was born on St. Joseph’s Day in County Monaghan, Ireland in 1931 where she lived with your parents and 7 siblings. She left home at 16, made the long, difficult ocean voyage to America at 19 landing in New York, where she made her new home. While at a dance, she met the love of her life, John Michael Greany and they were wed on January 29,1955. Eileen obtained her college degree in Geriatrics while raising her 4 children. She put her degree to good use when she opened her heart and home to her elderly family members; Grandma Greany, Great Ma Greenan, Great Aunt Margaret and Great Uncle Tom. Eileen was happiest in her garden, on the tennis court, having tea in her kitchen and spending quality time with her “buddy” and their children. No matter where you found Eileen she would no doubt be singing or humming a cheerful tune. Eileen’s regard for higher education was passed down to her children and grandchildren. Being a lifelong learner herself, she was forever saying “As I live and breathe, I learn something new everyday”. Eileen was a devote Catholic, always with the rosary and she was never in short supply of holy water, which she dispensed generously to her family. Eileen was predeceased by her husband John and is survived by her children, Lorraine and Daniel Sorrentino, John and Patricia Greany, Michael and Leslie Greany, Philip Greany, 7 Granddaughters and their partners and 10 Great Grandchildren.

A visitation for Eileen will be held Monday, January 16, 2023 from 3-6PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30AM on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Sacred Heart Church, 129 Lafayette Ave., Suffern, NY with burial to follow at FW Loescher Veterans Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY.
