

Elizabeth (Betty) Mary O’Hara of Suffern, NY passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at the age of 95. Elizabeth was born to the late Patrick and Mary Farrell on August 4, 1926 in New York, NY. Elizabeth married the love of her life, Francis O’Hara in January 1948. They were married for 38 years before his passing in 1986. Elizabeth retired from Orange & Rockland Utilities as a Secretary within the Line Department and was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and long-time member and active participant of the Suffern Woman’s Club and Montebello Seniors Center, where she served as Senior Trip Coordinator for many years. Over the years, Elizabeth quickly realized the importance of community volunteerism. As she often quoted, “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands – one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others”. With this guiding mission statement top of mind, Elizabeth was an active volunteer at Suffern’s Soup Kitchen and Good Samaritan Hospital.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving children Barbara Hansen (Henry), Mark O’Hara (Meri Ann), Mary Hahn (Matthew), and Patricia Griffin (Robert), by 18 grandchildren, 38 Great-grandchildren, 4 Great-great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Francis O’Hara, Elizabeth was also predeceased by her daughter Kathleen O’Hara Cogar, grandson Brian Hansen, her brothers Joseph and James Farrell, and by her sister Catherine Hunt.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 from 2-9PM at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Wednesday, November 17th at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern with burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
