

Ernest W. (Billy) Ballou passed away on May 27, 2013 with his family by his side. Bill was born in Nyack Hospital on April 8, 1929 to Ernest W. Ballou, Sr. and Dorothy (Weir) Ballou. He grew up in and attended Spring Valley schools where he met his future wife, Mary (Karlinger) Ballou in 1946. They graduated Spring Valley High School in 1948. He worked for Ramapo Mink Ranch and had his own Mink Ranch for 13 years. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. After serving 8 months in Germany he was discharged as Corporal in 1953. He married Mary in 1951 at Saint Joseph's Church in Spring Valley. He was on the Ramapo Police Force for 28 years. In 1977 he and his wife built and operated the Ramapo Mountain Motel, Town and County Septic Service, and built an office building in Monsey. He retired from the Police in 1984 as Sergeant and pursued his other interests. He and his wife were married for 61 years. Through the years, he came to be one of the most loved and respected men in the Town of Ramapo; everyone knew and loved "Billy Ballou"!
He is survived by his wife; Mary, daughter; Kathleen O'Dell and his four grandchildren the lights of his life; Billy, Shannon, KaceyMae and Tara. He will now rest in peace with his daughter; Laurine A. Ballou, who predeceased him. He will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY 10901 on Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9pm with a funeral service at 8:15pm that evening. A private cremation and committal will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hi Tor Animal Care Center.
