Ervin E. Murfree

Ervin E. Murfree, 95, of Spring Valley, NY passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2015. Ervin was born to Joshua P. and Rachel B. (Williams) Murfree on May 1, 1920 in Warsaw, NC. He was married to Mary (Witherspoon) Murfree for 52 years. Mary predeceased Ervin in 2005. Ervin was a proud United States Army Veteran serving in both WWII and the Korean War and retired as a CWO3 in 1963. He was a member of the American Legion Moscarella Post #199. Ervin served the community of Spring Valley for over 40 years sitting on the Board of Trustees. Among his many roles and titles were: Former President of the Spring Valley NAACP and Democratic Chair person in Rockland County. Ervin was also involved in both Little League Baseball and Basketball. He was a member of the Tallman Bible Church and served as a Deacon for over 50 years.

Ervin is survived by his beloved children Linwood McCoy (Carol), Michelle (Murfree) Vilmar , Ervin E. Murfree, Jr. (Julia), Yvonne C. (Murfree) DeGroot (Mike), and Adam S. Murfree (Dereksia), cherished grandchildren Kim Brown, Karen McCoy, Taya and Lamin P. Vilmar, Ervin E. Murfree, III, Azania Vilmar, and Alexis, Shannon, Jeremy Joshua, and Nicholas Murfree, adored great grandchildren, Ismail Saunders, Amanii Vilmar, Khari Dabney, and Azanyah Elie, one caring brother Dorsey Murfree, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Along with his parents and wife, Ervin is also predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters.

Both the Visitation and Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. The visitation will be held from 1-3 and 6-8PM with the FUNERAL SERVICE BEGINNING AT 7PM at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY. Burial will take place at a later date in the Murfree Family Cemetery in Warsaw, NC.
