Born on September 11, 1958, in Staten Island, New York, Gene grew up fishing and grew his love of plants at a young age exploring with his Grandfather. He joined the NYC Fire Department in 1979 and volunteered at Tallman Fire Department as both a Fireman and Commissioner. He was dedicated to serving his community and faithfully served the city of New York through 9/11. He also utilized his love of plants and antiques combined with his entrepreneurial spirit by building various business ventures.
Eugene was a “Gene of all trades” with a lifelong love of history, plants and landscaping, classic cars, fire antiques, and he even had a train room built in the family lake house. Sunset Cottage at Culver Lake was his favorite place, and where he passed after a beautiful sunset. Known for his quick jokes, a bold laugh, and joy for life, his favorite saying was “Comfort in life is everything.”
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Lisa; his two children, Jennifer Proietti-Fox and Amy Rose Neppach, their spouses Michael Wade and Michael Neppach; his grandchildren, Gracie and Cyrus. He is also survived by his four siblings, Thomas Fox, Gregory Fox, Laura DiStefano, Kathleen McBride and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Royal and Gertrude Fox.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on October 30, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Eugene’s life. Both events will be held at the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River, NJ. The family requests that you share your favorite story or memory of Eugene on the funeral home website.
Eugene will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His bold laughter, and love for his family will live on in the memories he leaves behind.
