Francis James Flynn, born in Manhattan in 1933 to James Francis Flynn and Nora Fanagan Flynn, but proud of his Bayridge, Brooklyn upbringing, he attended Regis High School, graduated from LaSalle Academy and served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was graduated from Niagara University with a Bachelor's degree in English, received his Master's degree in American Literature from the same institution, and pursued further graduate study at St. John's University. A gifted athlete and scholar, a professor of English, and a pioneer in the use of computers in education and law, Frank will be best remembered, however, as a loving husband; a fun, supportive and engaging dad; a super granddad; an enthusiastic whistler; a bad punner; a lover of poetry and badinage; and an all-around great guy.
A devout man who found joy in life and shared that joy with everyone he encountered, he was very comfortable at making other people very comfortable.
He will be missed by his wife of 50 years, Helen Konowalski Flynn, aka "the second most beautiful woman in the world," his children: Paul and wife, Regina; Amy; Stephen; Elaine and husband, Matthew Nowak; Alissa and husband, Lt. Col. Jonathan Morel; and Andrew, as well as his 10 granddaughters and one grandson, but they rejoice in the hope that he is alive with Christ in His Kingdom. He is also survived by a sister, Pauline Kane.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home [ http://obits.dignitymemorial.com/dignitymemorial/obituary.aspxn=FrancisFlynn&lc=7339&pid=161299064&mid=5323216&locale=en-US ], 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Saturday, December 1st at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 5 Willow Tree Road, Wesley Hills, New York.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Frank's memory to the Niagara University Alumni Fund [http://www.niagara.edu/niagara-fund/ ], the Saint Anthony Bread fund [ http://www.franciscancharities.org/ ] or your local Catholic Charities organization.
