Fuscien Lartigue was a very compassionate, thoughtful and generous man. He was a man of action and executed his plan of hard work and sacrificed himself so that the academic success of his children was most accomplished. He received his formal education in Jacmel where he became a master tailor. After graduation, he opened a tailoring school where he instructed many individuals who later became great tailors in their own rights. Mr. Lartigue’s former students still speak of his wisdom that he so freely shared so many years ago, as well as the positive impact his guidance has brought to them.
Mr. Lartigue met the love of his life, Annette Toussaint in Peredo, and they were married August 14th in 1955 at St. Dominick church in Marigot. This union produced five talented and loving children.
Mr Lartigue was an entrepreneur who owned several businesses in many regions of Haiti, mainly lands, horses, and agriculture. He employed many of the town’s people, which increased the standard of living in the communities he served. He was also an active politician and worked for the Haitian Government as a regional agriculture irrigation supervisor until he immigrated to the United States in 1969. He continued his philanthropy by supporting the friends and families he left behind and happily shared the fruits of his labor with those less fortunate until his passing. Mr. Lartigue really embodied the true spirit of “my brother’s keeper”.
Mr. Lartigue was employed by the Summit Park Health Center in Pomona, NY. He later worked at Letchworth village in Stony Point, NY as a care attendant and retired after twenty-five years of service in1995. Mr. Lartigue was well respected by his supervisors and his co-workers alike as he took great pride in his work ethic, and relished the friends he made during his time at work.
As an advocate of education, Mr. Lartigue instilled into his children a desire and quest for knowledge and explained the benefits and the responsibility that education demands. Education and love stand as the pillars that he established that keep the Lartigue family strong. He was a man of great faith in the Lord and was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Church in Spring Valley N.Y. Fuscien was one of the founding members of the Fraternity Lodge in Spring valley, NY where he served with dignity and was well respected among his peers.
