Born on October 26, 1949, in Mount Vernon, NY, to the late Len and Doris Kreielsheimer, Gary was the eldest of four boys. He spent his childhood in Yonkers, NY, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1967. He went on to earn a Bachelors degree and two Masters degrees from New York University in the fields of Social Work and Public Administration.
It was through his career as a social worker that he met his wife Marianne, marrying in 1983, and raising two daughters together in Suffern, NY. Gary spent many weekends taking his wife to the theater and cheering on his daughters at their swim meets.
Throughout his career, Gary created and directed mental health services to support vulnerable populations in New York and New Jersey. He made many friends along the way and was known to be a supportive supervisor to his staff.
Gary loved to golf, and was especially excited to have had the opportunity to play many times at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, CA. He was a lifelong Mets fan, and long-suffering Jets fan, attending games with his family as a season ticket holder alongside his brother Glenn from 1979 until the team moved to the new stadium in 2010. His daughters promise to carry on his legacy as a Jets fan, no matter how bad the team is.
Gary is survived by his wife Marianne Walsh of Suffern, NY; his daughter Kim Toomer and her husband Bill Toomer of Pineville, NC; his daughter Chelsea Kreielsheimer and her husband Mike Spinellli of Brooklyn, NY; his brother Glenn Kreielsheimer and his wife Meg Hertz of White Plains, NY; his brother Gregg Kreielsheimer and his wife Janet Fox of Raleigh, NC; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Len and Doris Kreielsheimer and his brother Gene Kreielsheimer.
Gary will be truly missed and will always be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father, uncle, big brother, and friend.
Memorial visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 23 from 11am-12:30pm with a chapel service at 12:30pm at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 177, Suffern, NY 10901. Repast to follow at Mahwah Bar & Grill.
Gary was an avid consumer of public television and radio, from watching Sesame Street with his young girls to later watching many episodes of Downton Abbey, and listening to NPR throughout his life.
