

Jackson, Geraldine K. of Spring Valley, NY, on May 12, 2011 at age 80. Born May 8, 1931 in Turtle River, MN, she was the youngest of the six children of Lloyd L. and Jessie J. Knott. Geraldine retired as a Nursing instructor at Rockland Community College (RCC) in 2003 after a successful career of nursing and caregiving that spanned 50 years. Geraldine, a Registered Nurse, was a graduate of St. Luke's Hospital nursing program in Duluth, MN and obtained her Bachelors' degree at the University of Minnesota, School of Nursing in Minneapolis. In 1958, she met her husband at the Ganado Presbyterian Mission to the Navajos, where she served as Head Nurse and he as a teacher and coach. The happy couple relocated from Arizona to New York and has resided in Spring Valley since 1965. Prior to Geraldine obtaining her Master's degree in Nursing at Herbert H. Lehman College and becoming a professor of nursing, she was privileged to work at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, Hillcrest Nursing Home in Spring Valley, serve as a home care nurse and run a successful home day care center. Geraldine was very active in the community, most recently as a member of Friends of the Finkelstein Memorial Library and as a volunteer English as a second language instructor. She was an active member of the United Church of Spring Valley where she served as Sunday School teacher for over 35 years. She was also a troop leader for the Spring Valley Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. Geraldine continues to honor the nursing tradition of quality care by funding an Enthusiasm and Caring Award for a RCC nursing student, which is presented each year at graduation. Survived by her beloved husband Nathaniel, loving children Rodney, and Marilyn, her daughter-in-law Marina and grandchildren Nicole and Dariya , as well as her oldest sister, Kathryn Knoer, sister-in-law Mary Knott and countless of nieces, nephews. Visitation Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home 177 Route 59 in Suffern. Funeral Service Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 10am at United Church in Spring Valley, NY Family will receive friends before the service beginning at 9:15am. Interment at FW Loescher Veterans Cemetery in New Hempstead, NY. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Geraldine K.
