Gerry was born in Manhattan at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital on February 14th, 1941 to Gerald and Mary Lynch. She was the second of six children:
William, Geraldine, Thomas, Maureen, Carolyn and Gerald.
Her family lived in Washington Heights where she attended St. Rose of Lima parochial school. She then went on to graduate from Aquinas High School
in the Bronx. Both of her parents worked hard to support the family so Gerry helped out with the younger children from an early age.
When she was about 16 yrs old, Gerry's parents bought a house in Elmhurst, Queens and the family moved. A short time later her older brother, Billy died
after surgery. A year later Gerry's father, Gerald suffered a stroke, he survived, but two years later in 1960 he suffered another stroke. This one was fatal.
By this time Gerry was working at New York Telephone in Manhattan and was helping to support the family as well as assisting with the younger children.
She had met Ray Kane who worked for AT&T in the same building in 1958 and they began dating. They were married in 1961.
Their first child was Veronica, born in 1962, followed by Raymond William in 1964, who lived for only a day. He was never forgotten. In 1965 Gerry and
Ray moved to Ramapo where Maureen was born in 1968. Gerry's mother, who passed away in 1995, and most of her family (Carolyn, Gerald and Thomas)
moved to Ramapo to be near her. Gerry's sister Maureen passed away in 2011.
In the 70's Gerry, who had left the telephone company when Veronica was born, went back to work, part-time. After a few years she took the civil service
exams and was hired as a temp by the Town of Ramapo Justice Court. In 1975 she became permanent and upon the retirement of her predecessor was appointed Chief Court Clerk. She held that position for over twenty years until she retired in 2002.
Gerry survived a devastating stroke in 2003, making a remarkable recovery. She never gave up and lived 11 more happy active years watching her
three grandchildren by daughter Maureen and her husband Peter Stillo grow, and seeing the success of her daughter Veronica who retired recently
as an NYPD Lieutenant Detective. She celebrated her 50th Anniversary with Ray in 2011, and spent half of each year with Ray in The Villages Florida,
a place she loved, until she passed away on May 13th, 2014.
Gerry lived a full and loving life always surrounded by family, and as dedicated to them as they were to her. She grew up through hard times losing her
brother, father and second baby in her youth. She always worked for her family, receiving the respect of all she worked with, and refused to let a stroke
take her away from the family she loved. She was loved by everyone who knew her: family, friends and co-workers. She has gone to God, but will
always live in our hearts.
