Born on January 3, 1942, in Haiti, Gerard lived a life full of love, devotion, and service to his family and community. He was a man of great character, whose warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him. Gerard was a proud father to his six children—Gelberthe “Fifi” Dure, Marie Therese Dure (Eddy Nicholas), Guerda Dure, Odette Dure (Moliere Payen), Sylvia Dure (Jean Max Sylvestre), and Jean Brenord Dure. He was a dedicated and loving grandfather to his seven grandchildren, Fritz Gody “Gougout” Nicholas, Chloe Payen, Sted Jean Pierre, Cindy Sylvestre, James Bradley Nicholas, and Reynold Cajoux, who were the pride of his life, and his brother, Bernard Dure.
Gerard is also survived by his devoted wife, Marie Denise Dure, with whom he shared many wonderful years. Their bond was one of deep love and mutual respect. He will be remembered fondly by his extended family, including the Dure’s, Payen’s, Lauture’s, Fabre’s, Monmaitre’s, and Lamothe’s, all of whom were an integral part of his life and whom he cherished dearly.
A man who placed family at the center of his world, Gerard's legacy will live on through the values of kindness, compassion, and hard work that he instilled in his children and grandchildren. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
