Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery in Nyack, NY in mid September. She will be interned next to her loving

husband George Jiri Kukla

Dr. Helena Jasna Kukla (née Kupka) was born in Moravia in Czechoslovakia on August 24, 1933 to Helena

(née) Kalinovska and Frantisek Kupka. She studied medicine at Charles University in Prague, Czechoslovakia

where she met her soon to be husband George Jiri Kukla (1930-2014). After graduating she worked in

Prague as a pediatrician. In 1957 she gave birth to her daughter Susan and in 1963 to her son Michael. In 1971 the family emigrated to the US, all becoming US citizens. In the 1980’s she took up her medical studies in New York and retook her medical residency. She studied psychiatry and became a practicing psychiatrist, later founding her own successful private practice in New City, NY. She found a loving passion in helping people.

Helena is survived by her children: Susan Garber and Michael Kukla; her sister Jirina Kupka, and her 2 grandchildren, Jeremy and Danny Garber.

Visitation will be held at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY 10901, US, on August 17, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY 10901, US, on August 17, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 5:45 pm.
