Irma, born on May 11, 1940, was a mother to many and a friend to all. For 85 years, she graced this world with a unique ability to bring life to everything she touched. Whether it was the vibrant energy that filled a room the moment she entered, or the careful way she nurtured relationships, her presence was a gift. As a seamstress, she masterfully stitched together fabric, but her true craft was weaving together the lives of her family and community, creating a beautiful tapestry of love and connection that will forever be her legacy. A true pioneer, Irma’s strength and leadership were evident from a young age.
She embraced motherhood at twenty, beginning a lifelong journey of selfless devotion to her children and the family she would build. Her courage shone brightest when she guided her family from their home in Haiti to a new life in the United States, a monumental act of love and determination. She was the matriarch in every sense of the word, laying a foundation of resilience and hope upon which future generations could build their dreams.
Though Irma is no longer with us physically, the immense love she spread remains a living part of each person she knew. The dreams she held as a young girl in Port-au-Prince did not end with her; they are alive and well in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to be part of her world. We keep her spirit alive every time we extend the same warmth and care she so freely gave, sharing the enduring love she planted in all of us.
Visitation will be Friday, October 10, 2025 from 9:30-11:00 AM at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern. A funeral mass will follow at 11:30 AM at The Church of St. Joseph in Spring Valley. Entombment will follow at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery.
