James Theodosus Spruill Sr.

James Theodosus Spruill was born on September 14, 1938, to the late McKinley and Armissie (James) nee Spruill. He departed this life on Saturday July 23, 2022. James leaves to cherish in his memory his beloved wife Mabel of 62 years of marriage. From this union came their four children Michael Lawrence (Betty Lou) Natashya (Dean Boone), James Tremell) (Diane) and his predeceased daughter Debra Ann. His Loving grandchildren Michael Leon, Maurice Linwood, Samantha Ilyes. Alec Hunter, Autumn Debra, Chole Nicole. As well as his loving great grandchildren, Isabella Marie, Amina Ma’at. James also leaves behind a brother Walter Van Dunk (Susan) and his sisters Armissie Smith and Carol Jones. Predeceased by his siblings David, George, Joseph, Brenda, Roger (Delores) and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

James was a lifetime member of Mt Zion Church. He was the President of the Trustee Board for many years. James took care of Mt Zion as he did his own home. He did all repairs and his love for the church was evident in the work he did. James would often tell the story of the many nights he spent at Mt Zion stoking the fire, Mt Zion was his refuge when he had nowhere to go.

James attended Mahwah School System. He was employed by Consolidated Stamp as a machine operator for 33 years. James truly loved the Lord. His favorite quote was” When you are going through the storms of life remember this is not your home we are just passing through.”

Services will be held Friday, July 29 at Mahwah Reformed Church 100 Island Road Mahwah, NJ. The family will receive friends from 11am - 12pm. Funeral service begins at 12 Noon. Interment to follow at Airmont Coptic Orthodox Cemetery, Airmont NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations in James' memory be made to Mount Zion A.M.E. Zion Church 106 Grove Street Mahwah NJ.
