

Jean Joaul Simelus Of Spring Valley, NY passed away unexpectedly on November 16, ,2022. Joaul was born on February 26, 1949 to Smith Simelus and Camen Vil in the town of Jameau, Haiti. He met and married his wife of 42 years, Marie Yvrose Dormelus on January 26, 1978. Their union produced two children Joanel in 1980 and Sandy in 1989.
In search of a better life for his family Joaul left Haiti and eventually settled in Spring Valley, NY, where his life mission was to work hard and provide for his family. Joaul worked in environmental services and dietary industries throughout his years of employment. Joaul was known for his work ethic. He took great pride in his work and presentation. He was given many awards of excellence across all companies he worked for. He retired in 2019 from Nyack Hospital and HMS Host Marriot where he was employed for more than 25 years.
After retirement he was able to focus on his favorite pastime: farming. He traveled back and forth to his beloved country of Haiti where he had a business in farming and land and property ownership.
Joaul loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was known for being serious and tough but not when it came to his grandchildren. He was a proud and doting grandfather.
Joaul is survived by his wife Marie Yvrose Dormelus , children Joanel and Sandy, grandchildren Jabaar and Tahliaah Alfreide, siblings Elise Simelus, Ghislaine Simelus, Yolande Simelus, Yvette Simelus, Gerda Simelus, Innocent Pierre, & Jocelyne Moise and a host of loving family and friends that loved him dearly.

A burial to follow funeral service will occur Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Brick Church Cemetery, 221 Brick Church Rd., New Hempstead, NY 10977. Repass celebration of life following the burial will be at First Timothy.
