John DeMaio went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 19th, 2019 with his loving family by his side. He was 85 years old. John was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 7th, 1934 to Josephine and Salvatore DeMaio. He was one of fourteen children. John married the love of his life, Marie Ruggiero, on September 12th, 1953. He was a member of the Brooklyn Plumbers Local Union for many years. John moved with his family to Rockland County in 1968. In 1969 he started a business called DeMaio Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning, Inc. His son, Kenneth, is now president. In 1971, John joined the Rockland County Sheriff Mounted Patrol under Sheriff Linderman then under Sheriff Kralik. He had the honor of marching with his unit in Washington, DC in the Presidential Inaugural Parade. He served faithfully as an usher and part of the security team for Gracepoint Gospel Fellowship Church. John was honored as senior of the year by the Ramapo Italian Twinning Club. He also was a member of Suffern and Ramapo Senior Clubs. He enjoyed playing golf and bocce with his friends but his greatest joys came from his family. He will be missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marie DeMaio; two children John and Kenneth; daughter-in-law Molly; three grandchildren, Justin, Amanda and Allison; and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 1st, from 10am-11am at Gracepoint Gospel Fellowship Church, 384 New Hempstead Road, New City, NY, 10956. Service will begin at 11am at the church, followed by burial at Airmont Lutheran Cemetery, Airmont, NY.
