

John was born on March 16, 1935, in the Bronx, New York, to William Hoy and Elizabeth Utermarch Hoy.
Before beginning his law enforcement career, John proudly served in the United States Army from1958 to 1960 and continued his military commitment through four additional years in the Army
Reserve.
In 1963, John married Laverne Agnes Sauve, and together they built a loving family, raising their three children: Valerie Dowling, John Hoy Jr., and Lauren Eisenstein. Their marriage was marked by love and devotion until Laverne's passing in 1991.
In 1960, John joined the New York City Police Department as a police officer. Through hard work, he was promoted to detective, a position he proudly held until his retirement in 1990 after thirty
years of service. Throughout his career, John was respected for his commitment to serving and protecting others.
John met Patricia in 1994 and began another chapter in his life. They were married on June 20, 1998, and shared nearly twenty-eight years together, creating countless memories with their
children and grandchildren and enjoying many travels along the way. Of all the places they visited, Hawaii held a special place in their hearts and remained their favorite destination.
Whether serving his country, his city, or his family, John embodied the role of protector. He approached life with a strong sense of responsibility, quiet strength, and steady presence that left a
lasting impression on all who knew him.
John was a devoted husband to Patricia Hoy; a loving father to Valerie Dowling, John Hoy Jr.(Maria), and Lauren Eisenstein (Brad); and a proud grandfather to John William Hoy, Connor Hoy,
and Abigail Eisenstein. He also shared many happy years with Patricia's children, Mari Vitale (Melissa), Victoria Martin (David), Charles Vitale (Anna), Daniel Vitale (Judi), Thomas Vitale, Peter
Vitale (Trudi), Patricia Reilly (Kevin), Janine Trench (Mark), and Christina Miranda (Richard); and grandchildren Charles, Daniel, Dylan, David, William, Julia, Nicholas, Jillian, Rhiannon, Jack, Luke,
Nate, and Evan, along with his relatives and close friends.
Visitation will be held at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY 10901, US, on June 22, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc in Sloatsburg, NY.
Committal will take place at Ascension Cemetery, 650 Saddle River Rd, Airmont, NY 10952, US, following the Mass.
