John Rossi

John Rossi, a lifelong resident of Spring Valley, NY, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, in New City, NY, at the remarkable age of 99. Born on January 25, 1925, to the late Alfred and Mary Rossi, John lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love.

John proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a 2nd Class Gunner’s Mate aboard the USS Haines destroyer escort, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters from 1943 to 1946.

After his military service, John married his beloved wife, Dolores (Shevock) Rossi, whom he married in August 1950. Dolores predeceased John after 57 years of marriage in 2007.

John became part owner of Rossi Auto Parts in Spring Valley and also worked as a machinist. He was deeply involved in his community, being a longtime member of the Spring Valley Lions Club and the Hugh Gassner Fire Company, where he also served as a past Fire Commissioner for the South Spring Valley Fire District. John also enjoyed spending time at the American Legion and VFW, where he was a member.

John is survived by his two sons, Wayne Rossi of Vernon, NJ, and Fred Rossi of Warwick, NY. He was a cherished grandfather to Shannan, Carolyn, Kenny, Johnny, Jennifer, and David, and a proud great-grandfather to Gabriella, Sophia, Max, and Leo. He also leaves behind his sister, Marie Truffa, and is predeceased by his brothers William, David, Alfred, and sister Margaret.

Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 4 PM on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 11 AM, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.StJude.org, a cause close to John’s heart.

John Rossi will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family, community, and country. His legacy of kindness and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
