Kenneth Robert Chase, who passed away on October 11, 2026, in Suffern, New York, was born in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Harry and Dorothy (née Hershorn) Schwartz. A determined man who never gave up, Kenneth lived his life with perseverance, dedication, and a deep appreciation for family.
Kenneth spent many years teaching in the New York City school system, where he shared his knowledge and skills with generations of students. He especially enjoyed teaching teens to drive throughout the five boroughs of New York City, guiding them through the challenges of learning a skill that would give them independence and confidence.
A lifelong builder at heart, Kenneth found joy in creating and improving things. Whether working in the family bicycle shop, teaching industrial arts, or taking on home improvement projects, he was happiest when he could build something with his own hands. His love of building extended beyond the physical world into the life he created with his family.
Kenneth grew up in a Jewish family and later married his Italian wife, Mary Elena. Through their marriage, he embraced her family and learned the value of accepting everyone and building a strong sense of togetherness. The blending of their families became an important part of his life and reflected his belief in the strength of love, acceptance, and connection.
Above all, Kenneth treasured his family. He loved watching his wife laugh, seeing Kierin and Elaine build a good life together, and helping raise his beloved granddaughter, Tempest. These moments brought him happiness and gave meaning to the life he worked so hard to build.
Kenneth will be remembered for his determination, his willingness to keep going when faced with challenges, his passion for teaching and building, and the love he shared with those closest to him. His legacy lives on in the family he nurtured, the students he taught, and the many things he built with his hands and his heart.
Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Elena Chase (née Cei); his son, Kierin Chase, and daughter-in-law, Elaine; his cherished granddaughter, Tempest Chase; and his sister, Ellen Jaffee. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern, New York. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service.
