

Marianna Cario of Congers, NY passed away on November 21, 2015 surrounded by her family. Marianna was born on October 9, 1929 in San Mango d'Aquino in Calabria, Italy to Giuseppe and Vincenza Sposato. She immigrated to the United States with her husband Antonio Cario in 1954 just before the birth of their only child, their daughter Maria. Marianna and her family settled in Park Slope, Brooklyn. She worked at a factory for 39 years, where she manufactured costume jewelry and Christmas ornaments. When her husband died in 2005, she moved to Rockland County to live closer to her daughter and grandchildren. “Nanny,” as she was called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was loved and will be remembered by all for her delicious cooking including her homemade sauce, her beautiful vegetable garden and her warmth, lively spirit and generosity. Nanny’s door was always open not only for her immediate but also her extended family. Marianna is survived by her daughter Maria and her husband John Nahas, her granddaughter Brigitte and her husband Pasquale Botta, her grandsons John Nahas and Anthony Nahas and her great-grandchildren John, Silvana and Richard Botta. Marianna was predeceased by her husband Antonio, her sisters Emma and Giuseppina and her brothers Arturo and Giovanni.
Marianna’s family will receive friends at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern, NY on Tuesday, November 24th from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated for Marianna on Wednesday, November 25th. Donations may be made in Marianna’s memory to the Joe Raso Hospice Residence or the Alzheimer's Association.
