Marie Bernadette Germain, affectionately known as Daddou to her father and Dédette to her family, passed away at home on September 12, 2026, with her devoted husband & son Geateau & Jeff Miceus, at her side.
Bernadette was born in Croix-Des-Bouquets, Haiti on January 28, 1970, to Jean-Mary Germain and the late Sainta Remy-Germain. From the day she entered the world, it was forever made a better place. Throughout her 56 years, she carried a warmth, generosity, strength, and joyful spirit that touched countless lives.
Dédette was a devoted wife, extraordinary mother, precious daughter, cherished sister, beloved aunt and godmother, and faithful friend to so many. She married the love of her life, Geateau, and together they raised two sons, Kyle Miceus and Jeff Miceus. Her boys were her everything, her heart’s delight and her greatest joy. As Kyle and Jeff grew into adulthood, the bond they shared with their mother deepened into a beautiful friendship. They were not only her sons, but two of her very best friends. The love and friendship they shared was among the greatest treasures of her life.
The third of five children, Dédette held a special place in the Germain family. The bond she shared with her siblings was filled with laughter, honesty, shared history, and a love that endured through every season of life. She had a way of keeping everyone connected, checking in, showing up, and reminding them that no matter where life took them, they belonged to one another. She was the glue that bound them together.
Bernadette built a life defined by hard work, service, family, and compassion. For more than 20 years, she devoted herself to supporting people with developmental disabilities through her work at the ARC of Rockland. Her career reflected who she was at her core: caring, patient, dependable, and committed to helping others live with dignity.
Bernadette had a gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. She was a friend to so many because she gave freely of herself, offering comfort, laughter, encouragement, and a place where others could feel at home. She could find humor in almost anything and had a special way of turning ordinary moments into lasting memories. Her presence brought lightness, and her laughter brought people together.
She expressed her love in many ways, but nearly everyone who knew Dédette experienced her love through food. She was an exceptional cook who found great joy in preparing meals for the people she loved. Every January 1st, she preserved a cherished Haitian tradition by preparing soup joumou. Her soup nourished more than the body; it connected us to one another.
When she was not cooking or caring for others, Dédette loved to dress up and have her hair & nails done. She carried herself with grace and took pleasure in looking her best. Her sense of style reflected the vibrant and elegant woman she was beautiful in appearance, generous in spirit, and full of life.
One of the most enduring lessons Bernadette shared was the importance of living with gratitude. She encouraged her family to recognize life’s blessings, appreciate what they had, and meet each day with a thankful heart. She did not simply speak about gratitude; she embodied it through her devotion to family, her years of service, her hospitality, and the love she poured into the lives of others.
Bernadette leaves to cherish her memory of her beloved husband, Geteau Miceus; her sons, Kyle Miceus, Jeff Miceus stepdaughter Ashley Miceus; her father, Jean-Mary Germain; her siblings, Patrick Germain, Marie Harmelle Germain, Ruth Germain Jean-Pierre, and Eddie Germain; her nephew and godson, Jonathan Eliacin; her niece, Aedan Jean-Pierre; her nephew, Gideon Jean-Pierre. Some of her best friends, Clavdia Joseph, Sherley Cherisien, Chantal Neilan, and many more including a large circle of relatives, friends, coworkers, and loved ones whose lives were made richer by knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Sainta Remy-Germain.
Although Dédette’s absence leaves an immeasurable space in the hearts of those who loved her, her legacy remains in the sons she adored, the marriage she treasured, the siblings and family she loved, the people she cared for, the traditions she preserved, the laughter she inspired, and the gratitude she encouraged others to practice.
Her life was a gift. Her love was a blessing. And her memory will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her..
