Michael Sadoff, 69, of Tallman, NY, passed away at his home early Friday morning, November 16. Beloved and remembered by his wife Linda, his son David, his daughters Melanie and Katie, and his sisters Jessica Mercatante and Rhonda Lapidow, Michael’s kindness and tireless good works touched a far wider circle than just his immediate family. He firmly believed in the power of reason and intuition to create positive change in the world and his own life. Possessing a boundless curiosity and wide-ranging intellect, Michael was a devoted member of his religious community and generous with his time as a teacher and volunteer. He was a student of physics at Cooper Union and the University of California, Berkley, a software engineer for over 30 years, and an utterly serious collector of silly puns. Most recently a vice president of risk management at JPMorgan Chase, Michael approached everything he did with a nobility of spirit and calm activity. His formidable willpower and strength of character remains a continued source of inspiration and comfort to those who knew him. The vision of Peter Cooper, the founder of Cooper Union, of a time when “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep,” animated Michael, and he vigorously worked to realize it. A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2019 at the New York City Center of Self-Realization Fellowship (newyorkcitycenter.org). Ad astra.
