Nena Castaneda (nee Alinan) of New Hempstead, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the age of 58. Nena was born to Alejandro and Saturnina Alinan in Claveria Cagayan, Philippines March 9, 1960. She graduated from Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines, Class of 1980 with a degree in Nursing. She immigrated to the United States in 1981 and married her husband, Jesus Castaneda, May 17, 1985 at City Hall in New York City. She worked as a registered nurse in the hematology-oncology unit for 33 years at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY. She was an avid music lover, “green thumb”, cook, amateur ballroom dancer, and a devoted friend to all who knew her. Nena is survived by her husband Jesus, her daughter Angelica Chiosi (nee Castaneda) and her husband John Chiosi; her mother Saturnina, and her four older siblings Fe Perez, Yolanda DeGuzman, Annabelle Wilbur and Nicanor Alinan. Visitation will be held Thursday July 5, 2018 from 4-8pm and Friday July 6, 2018 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday July 7, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Cemetery 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY. As she always had a passion for helping children, in lieu of flowers donations may be sent to a personal Facebook fundraiser for the children of Pasig and Dupax, Philippines: https://www.facebook.com/donate/165871567609134/ or to the Ovarian Cancer Society.
