Nicholas Louis Vertullo

Nicholas was born in New York, N.Y. to Anthony and Celia Vertullo. He was a devoted and cherished husband to his wife Grace, married for nearly 65 years. Loving father of Vanessa and her late husband Joseph; Anthony and former daughters-in-law Marianna and Karen; Thomas and his wife Tami; Robert and his fiancé Kelli; Laura and her husband Kurt. Adored “papa” to Joseph and his fiancé Ally, Anthony and his wife Emily, Tara and her husband Brandon, Maxwell, Gunnar, Matteo, Sarah, Julian, Lauren, Ava and Braden. Great grandfather to Viviana and Caden; and brother to Linda.

Nicholas graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School. He attended The City College of New York and received a master’s degree from Fordham University, where he also studied toward a Ph.D. He spent his career in education, working for the Clarkstown School District. He dutifully served his country in The United States Army.

Nicholas will be remembered first and foremost, for his love and dedication to his family, along with his commitment to his faith; his insatiable curiosity and vast knowledge about the world and its history; his love of Italian music and arias, romance languages, Latin, and white wine from Burgundy’s Batard-Montrachet; and his deep sense of gratitude to the City of New York for his education. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of having him in their lives.

Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2023, from 2-6PM at The Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home, 117 Route 59, Suffern, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 23 at 10:30AM at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern, NY. Interment will follow at the Ascension Cemetery in Airmont, NY.
