Rejeanne grew up in Hinche, Haiti, alongside her siblings, Eluchrist, Dieugrand, and Carmelot Saint Preux. During her childhood, she was raised by her uncle. From a young age, she developed the strength, independence, and caring nature that would define the remarkable woman she became.
She was known for her beautiful sense of fashion, humor, confidence, and, above all, her selflessness. She found joy in cooking, cleaning, caring for others, and giving whatever she could, even when she had very little for herself. She took great pride in keeping her home spotless and making sure no one around her ever went hungry. She loved money, enjoyed looking her best, and had one household rule everyone knew: once she made her bed, nobody was allowed to sit on it!
Whenever someone visited her home, they were welcomed with a warm meal and the kind of love and comfort that only a mother could provide. As a mother, Rejeanne made countless sacrifices to ensure her children had opportunities she may not have had herself. Even when she
struggled to make ends meet, she always found a way to provide for them. She made sure her children were fed, clean, and prepared for school because she understood the importance of education and wanted them to have a better future. Every night, she would hand-wash her children's school clothes, making sure they had something clean to wear the next morning. No sacrifice was ever too great when it came to her family.
In the 1950s with her late husband Lys Richard, she welcomed two beautiful baby girls, Marie Lourdes and Mimose. She also welcomes another babygirl,Yanick as well. A few years later, in
1957, fate brought Rejeanne to a party where she would meet the love of her life, Emmanuel Michel. What began as a chance encounter blossomed into a beautiful love story that would span
more than six decades. In April 1960, Rejeanne, at the age of 31, and Emmanuel, at the age of 27, joined their lives in marriage, beginning a lifelong journey of love, commitment, and family.
Together, Rejeanne and Emmanuel welcomed five beautiful children in Hinche, Haiti: their eldest, Michelet Michel, followed by Renel Michel, Ivrose Michel, Jean Michel, and their youngest, Edlyne Michel. Their family became the foundation of a legacy that would continue to grow for generations.
Rejeanne's love and devotion did not stop with her own children. She also opened her home and heart to her brother's children, Marie,Dieunise ,Michou, and Kesnel, whom she cared for as
though they were her own. She fed them, bathed them, prepared them for school, and made sure they had everything they needed. To Rejeanne, there was no difference between her children and
the children she welcomed into her care. Her nurturing spirit continued through the generationsas she helped care for her beloved grandchildren: Pierre Richard, Cindy, Johann, Jessica, Ashley, Hantz, Kemlye, Jeff, Michelle, Brenda, David, Gedeon, Stanley, Mike, Samuel, Katiana,Micheline, Marjorie, Ishmael, Taisha, Marvin, Jenny, Brian, Kiana, Kevin, Fredlyne, Latisha and
the late Charline. Her love for her family knew no limits, and she made sure each child felt cared for, protected, and loved.
For many years, Rejeanne divided her time between Haiti and New York, spending six months in each place. In 1990, she made the United States her permanent home, settling in Newburgh, New
York, alongside her beloved husband, Emmanuel, their daughter, Ivrose, her great grand daughterGevany and her late grand daughter Charline.
Rejeanne was also known for her unforgettable sayings: “Go take a shower!” “Go eat!” “Are you hungry?” “Did you bring me something?” “Here's a little spending money,” and, of course, “Go make your bed!” These simple words reflected her personality and the many ways she showed her love and concern for those around her.
She had a special way of making everyone feel loved, cherished, and comfortable. No matter the circumstances or challenges they faced, she made sure they knew they always had a place to call
home, a safe space filled with love, warmth, and acceptance. Her door and her heart were always open to those she loved.
On Friday, October 16, 2026, at the blessed age of 98, God called His beloved child home. Rejeanne will forever be remembered as a sassy, selfless, loving, nurturing, beautiful, and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Rejeanne Michel was truly one of a kind. She was the heart of our family, a woman whose strength, sacrifices, love, and presence left a lasting impact on everyone around her.
