

He was born in Brooklyn, New York to Rae (Leibler) and Nathan Gettenberg and grew up in Middletown, New York. Sidney is survived by his daughters, Denise Harris Ray of Hermitage, Tennessee and Sarah Anne (Robert) Schles of Wilmington, Delaware. He was a loving grandfather to Amy (Tim) Ray, Matthew Ray, Rachel Anne Schles, Laura Schles, Jesse Ray, and Samantha Schles.
He is also survived by his nieces, Michele Rosenbaum of Elmira, New York and Andrea Braid and April Roscoe of Baltimore, Maryland. Sidney was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Beverly Harris Gettenberg in 2010.
Sidney was a World War II veteran serving from 1945 to 1947. Sidney and Beverly owned and operated a coffee shop in White Plains, New York when they were first married. Over the course of his career, Sidney was proud to have worked for Ford, Chrysler, and Buick motor companies. Sidney was an avid birdwatcher, clock collector, and napper. One of his proudest moments in his later years was being able to take an Honor Flight with fellow veterans to Washington, D.C. to tour the war memorials.
He will be missed by his family and friends. The family will be holding a private memorial service at a later date and request (in leu of flowers) donations be made in his name to the Hudson Valley Honor Flight, PO 375, Walden, New York 12586.
