Walter Cekleniak passed away peacefully at home on 11/29/18 at the age of 91. He was born and raised in Mayfield, Pennsylvania and served in the U.S. Navy in WWII. After the war, he attended Penn State University where he developed a love of science. He worked at Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, NY for over 40 years, initially as a biochemist and then as Director of International Regulatory Affairs. Walter was a proud father, and valued family and friends above all. He was an avid golfer, and loved baseball and gardening. Walter was a kind and gentle soul, who became a role model for all who met him and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Jean, daughters, Natalie (Randy) and Julie (Dan), his sister Dorothy Morel and his five grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda, Zachary, Max and Alex.
There will be a memorial service at St. Boniface Church, in Monsey, NY on Saturday, December 8 at 11:30. The family has established a Walter Cekleniak Scholar Award at Lakeland High School in his home town. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Lakeland School District, and mailed to the attention of Joe Caputo, Lakeland School District, 1355 Lakeland Drive, Scott Township, PA 18433, with a notation that it is in memory of Walter Cekleniak.
