

Born on April 19, 1931, in Tuxedo, NY, Bill was the youngest of seven children in a first generation Irish immigrant family. He graduated from Tuxedo High School and went on to attend Manhattan College on a baseball scholarship, later receiving his Master of Science in 1965.
Bill started his career in education at Tuxedo High School where he worked for 7 years, before transitioning to the Ramapo Central School District working for 24 years, teaching Biology & Chemistry at Suffern High School. Later, he became the K-12 Science Coordinator for the school district. New teachers looked to him as a role model and his passion for learning carries on in the thousands of student’s lives he touched over the course of his career.
Bill was the loving husband of Nancy Durkin for over 60 years. Bill is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Trey) Sgroi and Deanne (Michael) Martin, and son, James (Torva) Durkin. Bill is also survived by his seven grandchildren, who each hold either his athletic ability, good looks, or quick wit, Danielle, Nicholas, & Trey Sgroi; Ryan & Mary Martin; and Fallon & Rowan Durkin.
