Mr. Creekmur persuaded me to pursue a college education at a time when I felt my work for the Lord was more important. At age eighteen, I had become wholly devoted to spiritual worship at a local holiness church. When I explained to my senior guidance counselor that a college education wasn't required to serve God, he patiently responded with, "But you might be able to reach more folks for God with a college education!"...and went on to list several Crestwood High grads who had become college educated ministers. I held firmly to my position for a year after high school, then in the fall of 1965 I enrolled at NSU, where I earned a B. A. degree in January 1970. I was fortunate to meet Mr. Creekmur several times during my teaching career of nearly thirty years in Portsmouth, Va. Each time I assured him that he had been "Right"...a college education did indeed broaden the scope of my work as an English teacher in God's vineyard from as far North as New Canaan, Connecticut to as far South as Ocala, Florida (my current residence). I am thankful for all Mr. Creekmur did for me and countless young people who might have missed out on their "true calling" had it not been for him. My sincere condolences to all who knew and loved him most dearly. On a more personal note, I fondly recall our times together at his "Produce Corner" in Portsmouth. On one such occasion, following my retirement, he granted me the privilege of being photographed with him. It's a moment I will always treasure! Thank God for preparing and inspiring Mr. Creekmur to help me at a critical time in my life! I never became a preacher, but I continue even now to work for the Lord.

To Mrs. Mildred Creekmur & Family,

Please know that I was deeply sadden to learn of the "Homegoing"of Mr.Allen Creekmur. His continual words of encouragement and his keen sense of humor were quite influential in my maturation process. During this difficult time remember, to be absent from the body is to be present with the "Lord". Surly Mr. Creekmur has been called from labor to rest, but he is now receiving is just reward in Heaven.

Mr. Creekmur, though small in stature was a giant of a man! An ole school man's man who told you like it was and took no prisoners! When he spoke people listened--students, parents, staff, administrators. While at Norfolk State University he provided unwavering love and guidance to thousands of students while providing leadership to Student Support Services, other Trio programs and the Student Government Association--thousands! I had the good fortune of being one of his SGA students and then had the privilege of working with him for years at NSU, and he never stopped loving and helping people. He changed lives!

Mr. Creekmur provided the infrastructure for the current NSU Trio programs almost 40 years ago and it continues today--not bad for a time when shoestring budgets and minimal staffs were the norm. I pray that the Lord will comfort his wife and family during this time of tremendous loss as well as the extended family of sons and daughters he so unselfishly dedicated his life to serving. His life was a testimony to how one man can make a big difference in the lives of others, he will be missed. God bless you all, He already loves you!

It is with sincere appreciation that I remember Mr. Creekmur. No other person impacted my education experiences while a student at Crestwood High School as much as Mr. Creekmur. I will continue to lift your family in prayer during your bereavement.
