

Allen graduated from Adelphi Academy in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Washington and Lee University and graduated from Lafayette College, receiving a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
Allen entered the U.S. Navy in 1941 in the field of aviation radar and was stationed in Jacksonville, FL, where he met and married Blanche Evalyn Palmer (Bep) Craig. Allen held the rank of Lt. Comdr. USNR. After discharge, they returned to Great Barrington, MA, and then settled in Forest Hills, NY, until moving to Houston in 1950.
Allen worked for Witco Chemical Company for over twenty-five years, as Southern Regional Manager for carbon black sales, and for Continental Carbon. He was active in the Southern Rubber Group, becoming chairman of that organization in 1964 and being named Man of the Year in 1975.
Allen was a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. He was a past Director of the Sugar Creek Country Club Homes Association. Allen was a member of Champions Golf Club and Sugar Creek Country Club. He was an avid golfer and bridge player and traveled extensively throughout North America and internationally.
Allen is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Bep Craig children, Allen Craig and his wife Jenny, and Melissa McNeil and her husband Barry; grandchildren, Daniel Craig and his wife Erin, Sarah Craig, Andrew McNeil, and Kathryn McNeil; and great-granddaughter, Mila Evalyn Craig.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Monday, May 23, 2011, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek,15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit).
After a private interment, a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, TX 77056-2199.
