Barbara Lee (Allen) Lacy was born in Corning, New York on October 14, 1936, to Horace and Ann Allen. Barbara and her 14 brothers and sisters grew up in the Corning, New York area on a dairy farm, where she attended and graduated from Corning Northside High School.
Barbara moved to Fort Worth, Texas where she met and later married Reverand Joe Lacy on November 21, 1958. After Joe’s graduation from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University, they moved to Shreveport, Louisiana to begin their career in service to our Lord. They served at Kings Highway Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where Joe was an Associate Minister and Barbara began her lifetime service as a pastor’s wife. She followed Joe as they moved to serve at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dumas, Texas; First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Chickasha, Oklahoma; First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and finally, Bethany Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Houston, Texas where Joe retired after a long and meaningful career. In addition to serving as a pastor’s wife, Barbara worked in the Oil and Gas industry in Houston until her retirement.
Barbara was the definition of the Proverbs 31 woman. She enjoyed gardening, painting, genealogy, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her husband, friends and family, and of course, cheering on her TCU Horned Frogs. She was a Master Gardner, receiving her certification from Texas A&M University. She is remembered by many as a wonderful friend, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed watching and cheering on the many activities involving dance, theater and sports that her children and grandchildren participated in. She enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends. If driving, she would want to venture away from the normal roadway to enjoy touring small towns and “window shopping”. She would frequently ask for the driver to stop so she could pick up the “good looking rocks” she would see as a passenger, although, the driver never did stop.
Barbara Lacy was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 63 years Joe; her brothers Jack, Donald, Dick, Gilbert, Emery, sisters Marion, Millie, Audrey and daughter in law Martine Lacy. She is survived by her brother Ed and her sisters Carol, Judy, Sue, Charlotte and Diana; her sons William (Bill) Lacy and his wife Patti of Katy, Texas, and Terrance (Terry) Lacy of Katy, Texas. Grandchildren Carolyn Collins and her husband Chase of Katy, Texas; Madeleine Lacy of Denver, Colorado; Vivienne Lacy of Fort Worth, Texas; Victoria Russell and her husband Kirby, of Katy, Texas; Katie Wagner and her husband Michael of Katy, Texas; and Jonathan Letter of Katy, Texas.
