BONNIE LEA REID McKINZIE was born to Mildred Margaret Parker Reid and Paul William Reid in Carnegie, Oklahoma and grew up in Alfalfa, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of six children. Bonnie met her husband, Howard Lee McKinzie, when they were in high school and they were married on June 3, 1960. Within four years their three children were born. Howard and Bonnie lived in Oklahoma City, Tempe, Arizona, Providence, RI, Framingham, MA, Houston and Sugar Land, Texas. She worked many jobs through the years, but retired from Input/Output after 20 years.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Howard, daughters Gwen Denise McKinzie Scott and husband Robert, LaVonna Lee McKinzie Daniel, and husband Howard, and son, Scott Howard McKinzie, and wife Susan; grandchildren Rachael and husband Roberto Guido, Kimberly Scott, Danielle and husband Nathan Day, Regan and Philip Scott; Russell and Laurie Daniel; Tucker, Jesse, and Olivia McKinzie, and great-granddaughter Eliana Day. She is also survived by brothers, Dennis Reid and wife LaVerna, Gene Reid and wife Lorraine McReynolds, Gaylond Reid and wife Joy, and sister, Margaret Spurgers and husband Mike; sister-in-law Teri Reid Prentice; sister-in-law Fran Rhodes and husband Martin as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bonnie was a devoted wife, mother, sister (in-law), grandma, great-grandma, and friend to many. She was very loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Bonnie had many hobbies including quilting, hiking (the Grand Canyon!), traveling with Howard, bike riding, sewing, cooking, gardening, racquetball, canoeing, camping, and skiing. Her favorite hobby was making quilts, but she was an avid seamstress even before she began quilting. Bonnie loved quilting and spent many hours, especially after she retired, making quilts. Each grandchild was welcomed with a baby quilt and many have received other quilts and blankets as well. She also made quilts for people she would never meet, just because she enjoyed quilting and helping others. She enjoyed helping people, whether it was being a “nurse”, cooking, sewing, gardening, or whatever someone might need. She spoiled her husband, children, grandchildren, and Eliana more than we deserved…always trying to meet needs before we realized we had them.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to her grandson Russell’s church, The Fellowship at Scofield Farms, 12424 Scofield Farms Drive, Austin, Texas 78758, thefelloshipsf.com with a notation of McKinzie Memorial.
