Carl Junior was born on November 13, 1932, in Northern Texas and was raised in Marietta, Oklahoma. Throughout his long and remarkable life, he found joy in music, watering his wife’s outside plants, church service, temple attendance, horses, woodworking, chess, running, weightlifting, and—true to his nature—a plethora of mathematical computations.
Carl was preceded in death by his father, Carl Clifford Fletcher, Sr.; his mother, Mae Hickman; his sister, Betty Ruth; his grandson, Benjaman Zachary; and his great-grandson, Nolan Claire.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Elvira Mae Hall of 69 years; his sisters, Linda Lou and Mary Evelyn; and his children, Desiree Lynn, Leo Mark, Stephen Michael, Carla Anne, and Patricia Sue. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of family, including 25 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild soon to join the family.
Carl was never afraid of hard work. At a very young age, he learned to operate farming equipment so he could help his family on their farm. He often reminisced fondly about his teenage years, when he spent summers helping his aunt and uncle on their farm.
His dedication, intelligence, and determination carried him far beyond the farm. Carl proudly served for 20 years in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Major after a distinguished career as a pilot and engineer. During his service, he received numerous honors and made significant contributions through his expertise and dedication.
After his military career, Carl continued his work as an engineer in the oil industry, utilizing his Master’s Degree in Engineering with an emphasis in heat transfer. His career took him around the world, where he worked on six of the seven continents. Carl worked until he was 89 years old—an enduring testament to his remarkable work ethic and love of staying productive.
Carl lived a life filled with curiosity, accomplishment, faith, and service. He loved learning, solving problems, serving others, and spending time with his family. And when things didn’t quite make sense to him, those who knew him best could always count on hearing his favorite expression:
“That’s ridiculous!”
His family and friends will remember Carl for his strength, determination, intelligence, humor, faith, and unwavering willingness to work hard. Most of all, he will be remembered for the lasting legacy he leaves in the hearts and lives of the many people who loved him.
