Cary was passionate about his family, Houston's sports teams and his work as a Project Manager at Gilbane Construction. He was an Aggie, graduating from Texas A&M's Civil Engineering program in 1967. Cary loved the game of football, playing Defensive End for Lake Charles High School's team that won state his senior year in 1958. He went on to play for Texas A&I the following year when they won the division's national championship. Cary never missed a Texan, Astro or Rockets' game, unless the time conflicted with work. As a Project Manager for Gilbane Construction for over 40 years, Cary, won multiple national awards. He was a mentor, a teacher, a role model, and a friend to many, setting a high standard with his unmatched knowledge and work ethic. His work was only part of who he was. The other was saved for his family. He loved deeply and cherished them all. He never missed a game, dance recital or gymnastic meet. With one glance of his eyes, his family knew the depth of his adoration. Cary was a man of few words, but possessed a deeply funny personality that kept them all in stitches. His loyalty knew no bounds, his strength of character was admirable, and he served as a role model of what a husband and father should be. He will be deeply missed.
Cary was preceded in death just two weeks before his own by his wife of 58 years, Peggy Brandom. Comfort is understanding that they are together watching down on their loved ones. His parents, Lee and Dorothy Brandom, passed away many years ago.
Surviving Cary are his daughter Julie Atun and son-in-law Victor Atun, his son John Brandom and daughter-in-law Kelly Brandom; his grandchildren, Skylar Shaw, Zach and Tyler Brandom, and Sean and Callie Atun; his nephew, Austin Snyder, his sister Jeanette Awbry; his niece Trisha Munsch; and his sister-in-law, Cindy Snyder.
A Celebration of Cary's Life will be held for close family and friends on January 17, 2026.
