CHARLENE FRANCIS MORGAN, entered this world as an earthly angel on the 20th of November 1921, and took flight as a Heavenly angel on October 11th, 2013, after losing a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Charlene was a proud Houstonian and attended San Marcos Baptist Academy and The University of Houston. She worked most of her adult life for Shell Oil Company, in the downtown Houston office. Charlene was manager of the corporate travel department and, later, an executive secretary to the president of the company. She was firm believer in education, and with her husband, Thomas, the love of her life, to whom she was married for forty-nine years, created a scholarship fund at San Marcos Baptist Academy that benefited many students over the years.
As a devout Christian, who loved her Lord, Charlene and her husband, Tom, were charter members of Willow Meadows Baptist Church. Later, they belonged to First Baptist Church, Houston, and lastly, she belonged to Bateman Baptist Church, near Red Rock, Texas, after her husband passed away. She was a member of the Board of Trustees at San Marcos Baptist Academy and the Women’s Junior League.
Charlene was an amazing daughter, sister, wife and friend. She was a kind and compassionate woman with class and a big heart – a very special lady! During her lifetime, Charlene traveled extensively with family and friends, visiting many places all over the world. She loved spending time at her ranch in Red Rock, Texas, feeding the cows, with her lovely little dog, Precious, at her side and enjoying a cup of coffee while watching the sunrise.
Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Morgan; her parents, John and Ida Dowsett; her sister, Juanita, and her husband, Herbert Hodgeman.
She is survived only by her cousin’s wife, Dorothy Dowsett, of Moline, Illinois.
Sincere appreciation to Dr. Thomas Baxter, and to the staff at Life’s Solution Hospice, with special recognition and gratitude for her caregivers, Nora Bainbridge, and Ernie and Lindsey Bainbridge for their unconditional love, kindness and care of Charlene Morgan.
A Service celebrating Charlene’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 17, 2013, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit), with Pastor Jeff Jones, of Bateman Baptist Church, officiating. A Visitation will precede
the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the service at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, in Houston.
