Charles “Chuck” Wayne Taylor, 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and faithful dogs. Chuck was born on July 5, 1945, in Pasadena, Texas to Charles and Frances Taylor. He graduated from Jesse H. Jones High School where he met his high school sweetheart Diane Catherine Walding. They were introduced by a friend because Diane’s birthday was July 4th and Chuck’s was July 5th. He married his sweetheart on June 19, 1965, and had 51 amazing years together until her passing in 2017. Chuck and Diane were blessed with two children, Wayne and Staci. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Houston in 1967. After college, he began a successful 32-year career with R.J. Reynolds. In 1975, Chuck and Diane moved to Sugar Land, where they built their life and raised their family. After he retired from Reynolds, Chuck pursued a new entrepreneurial venture with his son Wayne, in which he worked until the week before his passing.
Chuck loved sports whether it was playing, coaching, going to games, or simply watching on TV. Growing up in Houston, Chuck had a love for all Houston sports teams - the Texans, the Oilers, the Rockets, and his beloved Houston Cougars, but the Houston Astros were probably his favorite. He was blessed to attend a few Astros World Series games and was so happy to cheer on his Astros and watch them become World Champions. In the '70s and '80s, Chuck would be found coaching his son’s Sugar Land Little League baseball teams and Sugar Land Cowboy football teams, and even coached his daughter’s softball team a few times. He was mentor to numerous young men and women throughout his years on the field. When Chuck wasn’t coaching, he would be up at the fields making sure they were maintained and ready to go for the next big game. Once he had grandchildren, he continued his love for little league sports by attending every one of his grandchildren, Ashlyn and Ryan’s games, and then went back to coaching a 2nd generation by coaching his granddaughter's softball teams.
In addition to sports, Chuck was an animal lover! His faithful companions were a big part of his life. Many animals were blessed by Chuck’s giving heart, whether they were his own or an animal in need. In his final days, he was surrounded by his faithful companions, Sadie, Bella, and Cody.
Once their children were grown, Chuck and Diane enjoyed their free time traveling, playing golf, and spending time with their family and grandchildren. With his beloved wife Diane by his side, they were able to take some amazing trips to see the world. On their travels, they made many new friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his wife Diane, and his parents, Charles and Frances Taylor. He is survived by his son, Wayne Taylor, and his fiancé Blythe; Daughter, Staci Hartfiel, and husband Scot; grandchildren, Ashlyn and Ryan Hartfiel; Blythe’s children Birgess, Brinly, and Blake Weston. Chuck will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. The family expresses their appreciation to Dr. Matthew Campbell and his team with MD Anderson, as well as Samantha Gamboa and Jessica Danas for their care in his final days.
